What it does for you

Directions that don’t need a signal.

Spoken, turn by turn

Hear each turn before you reach it, with the screen on or off.

Reroutes out of range

Miss a turn and Dirt Map finds a new way from where you are, with or without signal.

Along the tracks

Directions follow the tracks and roads, for 4WD, walking, cycling or dirt bikes.

Straight about the last stretch

If your destination is away from the tracks, it shows you where the tracks end and the dotted line begins.

The route preview in Dirt Map from Billy Goat Bluff to Bullock Flat Camping Area: the route on the map, 4WD mode, the climb and descent, the elevation chart, public toilets along the way, and 17.4 km, 47 min with a Start button.
Check the route before you go. The climb chart and the services along the way are part of Pro.

The next turn, spoken and on screen. The services-ahead line is part of Pro.
Dirt Map rerouting after a wrong turn: an orange Rerouting banner over the map, with the distance and arrival time along the bottom.

Keeps going with no signal

Directions, and new directions when you go off route, keep coming with no signal. All it needs is the offline map for the area you are in: one region is free, and Dirt Map Pro adds the rest.

Spoken directions, with the screen off

Voice directions are on from the start and keep going with the screen locked. They turn your music down while they speak, and one tap mutes them.

Destinations away from the tracks

Not every destination sits on a track. Dirt Map takes you as close as the tracks go, then shows the rest as a dotted line and tells you that part is off-track, before you set off.

Arrival times that know your pace

Once you have recorded a few trips, your arrival time takes into account how fast you usually travel.

Turn-by-turn navigation is a guide, not a substitute for a paper map, a personal locator beacon (PLB), proper trip planning or your own judgement. A track on the map may be closed, washed out or beyond your vehicle, and a dotted line is not a track. Check conditions before you go, and on remote trips carry a paper map and a PLB.
FAQ

Common questions.

Is turn-by-turn navigation free?
Yes. The climb figures in the route preview and the services along the way are part of Dirt Map Pro.
Does it work with no signal?
Yes, including finding a new way when you go off route. It needs the offline map for the area you are in: one region is free, and Pro adds the rest.
Does it speak the directions?
Yes. Voice directions are on from the start and keep going with the screen locked. One tap mutes them.
Does it say road or track names?
No. It tells you which way to turn and how far ahead the turn is.
Does it take one-way tracks into account?
Yes. Except on foot, it keeps you off one-way tracks in the wrong direction.
Can it take me somewhere that is not on a track?
It takes you along the tracks as close as they go, then shows the rest as a dotted line and warns you that part is off-track.
Which modes does it support?
4WD, walking, cycling and dirt bikes. Distances are in kilometres and metres.
How is it different from Navigation Companion?
Turn-by-turn navigation finds a way to a destination for you. Navigation Companion follows a route you have already saved, waypoint by waypoint.
