The short version. Dirt Map is a guide, not a guarantee. Tracks change, maps go out of date, and the bush does not care what your phone says. Carry proper maps and safety gear, check official sources before you go, and make your own calls in the field.

These terms are an agreement between you and DIRT MAP PTY LTD (Australia) (“Dirt Map”, “we”, “us”) covering your use of the Dirt Map app and this website. By installing or using the app you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

Safety — read this one

Dirt Map’s maps, tracks and navigation are a guide only and may be inaccurate, incomplete or out of date. Do not rely on this app alone — carry appropriate maps and safety equipment, and check official sources for track closures, weather and conditions.

Off-road and outdoor activities are inherently dangerous. Conditions depend on weather, terrain, your experience and your vehicle’s capability. You are responsible for your own safety and decisions, and you take part at your own risk.

A track appearing in Dirt Map is not a statement that it is open, legal to drive, safe, or suitable for your vehicle. Access rights change, gates get locked, and public land is not always public. Checking that is your responsibility.

Your licence to use Dirt Map

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Dirt Map on devices you own or control, for your own recreational use, subject to these terms and to Apple’s standard licence terms for App Store apps.

You agree not to:

  • bulk-extract, scrape, redistribute or resell the map, track or campsite data, or build a competing dataset from it;
  • reverse engineer the app except to the extent that law expressly permits;
  • use the app in a way that breaks the law, damages the service, or interferes with anyone else’s use of it.

Your content

Your trips, routes, markers, notes and ratings are yours. You keep ownership of them. You grant us only the licence we need to store, sync and display them back to you and to your own signed-in devices — nothing more.

Track difficulty ratings and the derived visit summaries described in our Privacy Policy are an exception: by submitting a rating you allow us to use it, in aggregated and de-identified form, to improve difficulty estimates for everyone.

If you share a route link, anyone with that link can open it. Do not share routes that cross private property or reveal somewhere you would rather keep to yourself.

Subscriptions and purchases

Dirt Map is free to download and use. Dirt Map Pro is available as an auto-renewing annual subscription or as a one-time Lifetime purchase.

  • Apple bills you, not us. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
  • An annual subscription renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
  • Manage or cancel in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device. Deleting your Dirt Map account does not cancel an App Store subscription.
  • A Lifetime purchase is a one-time, non-consumable purchase. It does not renew, and Restore Purchases brings it back on a new device.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under its own policies. We cannot issue App Store refunds ourselves.

We may change Pro pricing or what it includes. Changes apply from your next renewal, never retrospectively, and a Lifetime purchase already made stays honoured.

Availability

Downloaded map regions keep working with no connection — that is the point of the product. Some features do need our servers: syncing between devices, downloading new regions, and streaming Pro terrain. We do not promise those services will be uninterrupted, and we may change or discontinue parts of the service. If we discontinue something material to a paid subscription, we will act reasonably about the remainder of your term.

Map data

Dirt Map is built on open data, including OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL), Copernicus elevation data and Australian government open data. That data belongs to its contributors under its own licences and is provided without warranty. Full credits are on our attribution page.

Ending your use

You can stop using Dirt Map at any time, and delete your account and data from Account → Delete Account in the app. We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these terms — for example by bulk-extracting the data.

Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer under that law, you have guarantees that operate alongside these terms.

Subject to that, and to the extent permitted by law: Dirt Map is provided “as is”; we do not warrant that the map, track, campsite or navigation data is accurate, complete or current; and we accept no liability for loss, injury or damage arising from your use of the app, including any decision you make in the field based on what it showed you.

Where our liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, it is limited to resupplying the service or paying the cost of having it resupplied — or, for a paid subscription, to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app. Continuing to use Dirt Map after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and you and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that state.
