What it does for you

From a rough idea to a route you can follow.

Follows the tracks

Your route follows the tracks between the points you choose, in 4WD or walking mode, not a straight line across them.

Know what you are in for

See how far each stretch is and how much it climbs and descends before you commit to it.

Change it any time

Saved routes stay fully editable. Move a point, remove one, or turn the whole route around.

Share it with your crew

Send a route to a mate as a link, and they can add it to their own Dirt Map.

Every point is part of the route

A point does not have to sit on a track. Put one in a clearing, on a summit or by the river, and the route still reaches it with a straight line for that last bit.

Climb and descent for every stretch

Each stretch shows its distance, climb and descent, and they add up to the route’s total. Move a point and the numbers follow. These figures are free for everyone; Dirt Map Pro adds an elevation chart for the whole route, coloured so the steep pinches stand out.

Waypoints worth remembering

Give each waypoint a name, a type with its own icon on the map, a note and photos, so you remember why it is there.

Plan with no signal

Planning works with no signal wherever that region’s map is on your phone. One region is free, and Pro adds more. When the route is ready, follow it with Navigation Companion.

A planned route is a plan, not a guarantee. Tracks close for the season, after fire or flood, or for works, and conditions change. Before you go, check with the land manager for closures and current conditions, and on remote trips carry a paper map and a personal locator beacon (PLB).
FAQ

Does it work with no signal?
Yes, wherever that region’s map is on your phone. One region is free, and Pro adds more.

Yes. Plan in walking mode and the route follows walking trails.
What if a waypoint is not on a track?
The route still reaches it, joining it with a straight line.
Can I edit a route after saving it?
Yes. Saved routes stay fully editable: reshape them, reverse them, and change each waypoint’s name, type, note and photos.
Can I share a route?
Yes. Share it as a link, and the other person can add it to their own Dirt Map. You both need signal to send and open it.
Can I bring in routes from another app?
Yes. Routes import from GPX, KML, KMZ, GeoJSON and OziExplorer files.
Can I follow a route I planned?
